In a few days, I’ll be going back to my nerdish roots, and join with some old buddies in what is said to be Denmark’s biggest LAN gaming event. Well, actually, this time it’s only for 450 people, but normally its 800 and up.
3 years ago I did this 2 times every year and helped arrange and carry out the tournaments. Since C came into my life, I have said no every time I was asked, but this time I just had to go and check it out. I have no plans on going back to the organization permanently again. It takes too much of my free time, and now C is more important to me.
The event has grown enormously since I left. When I participated, it was about 50-400 people and there were no sponsors and such. Now everything is planned to the tiniest detail and there are shops where companies can buy a few days with the nerds target group.
There will be small events within the event and generally a good time. The attendees will have to come up with 500DKR (100USD) for 3½ day with gaming and nerdish stuff (for example there will be a chocolate milk “crashing” contest, that normally promises an afterwards puking contest).
I won’t be going all days. The other arrangers have planned ahead for months and will be there from today to setup chairs, tables, fix the net, and you name it. The event starts Thursday, and that’s where his royal fatso I will show up. I still don’t know what my assignment will be, as I’m just told to come with my computer and enjoy myself. Then time will tell what smaller assignments I will get along the way. I feel a bit bad not to go and help out from start to end, but that’s not an option now that my priority is elsewhere. I also feel a bit guilty leaving C home all alone. So I’m a bit torn, but still look forward to going.
The site for the event can be found here
Not sure what to expect, but it will be cool to meet some of my old CS buddies again. Have been a long time.
