I may be a huge disappointment…

….in being a good Chinese husband.
One thing I never thought out was the difference of Danish and Chinese weddings. Even though many things are similar and comparable, there are few, that really stands out. The most obvious scary one was when my wife let slip to me that in China it is customary to buy a house when you marry. Whoops, I never saw that one coming.
Well, we discussed it, and to my great relief I found out that “house” could be an apartment. More important, “renting” could be accepted in stead of “buying”. Of course C pointed out that only the poorer newly weds rented a home. So there I was; a huge Danish disappointment.
Well, not really, but C had a point. We need a bigger home. Until now I always felt our current home satisfactory, but I always lived alone. Now we are two, and I must admit, that my thinking patterns have changed accordingly. Now my mind does not only wander about what new hardware to invest my hard earned money in, but also how to make living more comfortable for the two of us. The selfish part is dramatically minimised. I hate to admit it, but I guess I needed this change.
So, talking will get you nowhere, and I recently went to the home renting union/company that owns our current home to apply for a bigger apartment. Our current home is a 2 room apartment (including bath, kitchen, hall, and a tiny utility room). It may be small (63 m2), but the view from the “balcony” is excellent as it is facing west with no buildings to block the view. It will be missed.
Since I have been at this particular home renting union/company for quite some years already, we got an offer pretty fast. Actually we had an offer the very next day after applying. We went to inspect 2 days later, and this Monday we accepted.
The new apartment is not huge, but much more appropriate for two people. It is situated on the same street as our current home, so the neighbourhood will be well-known (which is a plus for C too).
It is 83 m2 in size and has 3 rooms. The living room is much bigger and the bedroom is better too. Our current bedroom is too small for our double bed, which means that it do fit, but you have to crawl over the other person to go to bed. Pretty annoying in the long run. As of 1st July this problem will be nothing more than a bad dream as we move into our new home. So we have about 3 months to fix all things practical.
