One accident seldom comes alone

Last week our television started acting up. At first the picture started rolling, but then a few days later it managed to go a step further and roll to the bottom and make a glowing line. After 5 minutes os so it would become warm and seem to work with a few glitches. Unfortunately this was getting worse and worse for each day, so after a unsuccessful attempt to repair it, is was new-television-time.
Now these things always come when you have no money or have managed to save a bit for bad times. In our case it was the latter, which of course was on the plus side if you have to think positive. Our luck was that a special offer could be found in our local grand shopping “mall” (Bilka), due to them having birthday. So I teamed up with my dad and got a ride there Sunday, when the special offer started and ended up with a Phillips 32″ LCD television for 6000,- kr (about 1100US$). Way more than I normally would spend, but both my dad and C told me that we shouldn’t buy crap. So I decided to listen. Our last TV was a cheap one and that may be why it only lasted 5 years or so before cracking up. Bottom-line: Cool new TV, but now we’re out of money again. At least now I can say that one problem is solved for a while (hopefully).
Sunday when we woke up I found a lot of water on our kitchen floor. Turns out a water lock under the sink had died and was leaking. Luckily it was possible to stop the water flow using another lock there. Still it means no water in the tap and no use of the dishwasher. The water went under the linoleum covering the floor and even though I try to dry this up, it will leave a permanent mark and may need repair. Fortunately our apartment is rented, so we won’t have to spend any money on this. It is all taken care of by the company of which we rent the place. Still a sucky way to wake up, right?
Right now the kitchen looks like shit. The linoleum is taken off and newspapers spread out. Our dishwasher is pulled out to make sure all water is sucked up:
All day I had to stay at home and wait for a guy to come and fix it. The floor he can do nothing about yet, but the water lock is now changed, so that’s positive. When the floor is dry enough, I have to call the landlord and have him inspect the floor. I’m positive that we need a new one, but we will have to wait and see.
Somehow I’m just accident prone these days. Better not start repairing anything anytime soon.
