Hips don’t lie really! They don’t!

Friday C and I went to see Shakira with lonely buddy nr. 1 (Kojak). The concert was held in Gigantium right here in Aalborg. It’s a huge step forward for Aalborg which is a relative tiny city compared to more normal suitable sized cities like Copenhagen. So it’s kind of a scoop that Shakira and soon Beyonce perform here at all. Hope the trend continues.
Better yet is that it turns out that we live pretty close to Gigantium. Going there only involves a 15-20 min walk. Much more preferable than to struggle for parking or taking a bus to get there. Also you can concentrate that harder about “getting in the mood”, without worrying about level of alcohol level in your blood vs. driving.
It was C’s first major concert, so I was focusing on getting a non-crowded, not too loud or bad spot to watch the show from. C is not the tallest, and neither Kojak nor I like too much pushing, beer spilling or drunken jumpers. This calls for a spot not too close to the stage. Since we were there in good time, we managed to get 3 seats. The downside was that the seats was located very far from the real deal. Still we were all satisfied with the choice after all. I must admit that next time, if there will be any, we will try to get closer to the stage. The view was fine, but a bit too far away to see enough and the mood was definitely higher closer to Shakira (surprise?). Maybe they could see more hip action. That would explain the frenzy after all.
From our point of view the concert was ok and as one would expect/accept. No doubt that Shakira can sing (if you like her style of course), the musicians know their stuff and the show/performance was acceptable. If the music is not compelling enough, Shakira catches up in her dancing and flirting with the camera/crowd. No wonder why she is considered world-class. I had a few colleagues there too, and they were placed much closer to the show. They had a much better experience than us, and were nothing less than delighted. I bet I would feel the same, but we chose the more safe spots. Don’t regret it at all, but it explains why my Shakira experience is only rated “ok”.
A few pictures from the concert:
Note that this picture was taken from our seat, but it doesn’t do our view justice. The stage seemed much closer than the picture shows.
