I love WordPress.
It is easy to use and maintain when you get through the geekish hassle of installing it. Should you be a lesser nerd, you even have a possibility to buy a ready installation from the good guys at WP. Then you’re all set to begin blogging and still have most of the options anyway.
Even though I take pride in having no luck at all in most things I do, I have to admit that I must have struck gold, when I – by accident – stumbled on WordPress more than one year ago. I didn’t know anything about blogging solutions back then, but the more I learned about WP, the more I found out that was and is the best on the market. It’s frequently updated and it’s free.
What more can you wish for?
What I really like is the possible plug-ins you can nerd your way through. It complements my fancy for writing with my other favourite hobby: geeking.
One of the most useful plug-ins is the Akismet Spam plug-in which now comes free with the current WP installation.
I never thought any spam bots would find my site remotely popular, but somehow they did. At first I didn’t see the big advantage to Akismet Spam plug-in, but lately I have come to love it. Just today I got 29 spam comments, which Akismet caught for me. My only task is to take a quick glance at the comments and press ‘delete all spam’. Voila, task done.
The alternative would be to scan and approve/mark all the comments individually and delete them myself. Now Akismet does most of the job for me.
Since I installed it with WP 2.0, it has caught 748 spam comments. Good job.
I am afraid that the comment spam pestering has just started. The annoyance is getting bigger and bigger, and they do all kinds of things to get around the different spam fighters. As long as the governments in the origin countries don’t do more to stop them, we’ll have to trust tools like Akismet.
I recent the spammers. They all seem to think that I need drugs to get through my daily life. Maybe I do, but I prefer consulting my doctor. I get some great offers though. Who can say no to this guy (with so poor English skills, that even I spot the spelling mistakes):
I’m realy sory, but i need your help!
