Bring on the Night

… wearing sandals and socks when it is pouring down.

I spotted 3 colleagues who apparently won’t give up their leather strapped beauties, even though the weather gods clearly told them it was not a normal Danish summer day.

When I got up this morning at 6.30 we were greeted by pounding rain. It made me consider grabbing the wife, the 2 rabbits and build an arc.

It rained hard and constantly until 11.30, and the news told that several basements was flooded, some major streets was un-drivable, most people couldn’t send SMS’s for hours as a telephone central in Copenhagen was flooded, a traffic light died and made car chaos.

When I went to work (decided to take the bus), I saw sand under these ½ year old concrete stairs had been swept away which made the concrete blocks slide down. As I got off the bus to follow my normal path to work, I went in the tunnel under the train station only to find this flooded as well. Later today I heard that the train station staff escorted the transit passengers across the normally off-limits rails to change trains.

Even though I wore a rain jacket and an umbrella, I ended up with soaked socks and shoes. My pants dried up around 13.00 o’clock. An yes – I really did try to stay clear of the pools, but it didn’t help me one bit. The rain was too crazy today.

I know I am not known for being a sandal lover, but really? What makes people get in the morning and look out the window and think: “Hmm looks like doomsday, but HEY – every day is a socks and sandal day!”. I’m amazed.
